Cool weather, hot coats…

The perfect 1XL thrifted jacket I can’t stop wearing
If you’ve been following me on IG lately, you may have noticed that I literally cannot stop talking and posting about coats. We are in the thick of coat season when on any given day you could be wearing a different one- one day it’s 40 degrees and you need your heavy overcoat, the next it’s 60 with a light breeze and you need a lighter leather or denim.
The thrift store is the best place to find outerwear, which is a critical part of your wardrobe that tends to be very expensive. If you’re willing to dig for secondhand though, you can get much higher quality and an unbeatable price.

80% WOOL BBY
Recently I have had phenomenal luck at the thrift store and snagged a black 80% wool coat for roughly $35. Earlier in the season when searching online and in stores, I was finding brand new winter jackets that were $400-800 at barely 30% wool. I am officially in the era where if I’m spending good money on something new I am checking the labels: I refuse to overpay for plastic any more.

This particular coat I scooped up the same time as the wool coat. This one IS fake pleather made from polyurethane, but it only cost me about $27, whereas you can see below….
This is just the secondhand price, $168 was retail!
It’s Maeve, a brand sold at Anthropologie, and retailed in stores for $168! It had a gigantic stain on the inside that was meaty (it didn’t not look like vomit…) and though my fellow thrift shoppers were pretty horrified when they saw whatever was stuck to it, I was undeterred. Hey- stains come out! Me and my dry cleaner are tight.

This jacket is not thrifted but every time I wear it I get compliments all day. It adds so much to a look with just one piece!
Coats and jackets to me can also really dress up an outfit and can add structure in a way that sweaters fall short. Next time you want to step up an outfit, try adding a jacket!
