Snakes & Sneakers
JGT #002: I have some juicy news.
You’re reading Jersey Girl Thrift’s bi-weekly newsletter—a quick, fun read full of second-hand trends, exclusive swap offers, thrift tips, behind-the-scenes news, friendship, and a recipe or two. It’s everything you need to live a thrifty and luscious life.
HeLLooO!
Ummmm, it’s been cold. I’m not wholly upset about it, though, because I get to break out this vintage suede jacket that I splurged on at NYNJ Goodwill of Elmwood Park. $50! Would have easily been $300-400 retail. My partner and I did an NYC trip this weekend, and I was toasty the whole time.
Anyhoo, how are you feeling about wrapping up January and welcoming the Year of The Snake!? I cleaned my hallway to let in all that fresh Snake Year energy. This year, we’re shedding things that don’t serve us and moving with intention, babyyyyyy.

Kelli and I are busy bees getting the February swap all set. The racks are STACKED with fire items. There are amaaazing brand names, coats, boots, date night tops, workwear, sneakers, pants, activewear, graphic tees, dresses, and more. Not to mention a denim + patch station dedicated to personalizing your very own 90s jeans.
If you’re not coming to the Feb swap, I have some juicy news below. 😉
Patch Station
in the community
With the help of a few JGT folding racks, one high school Environmental Club held its first pop-up thrift store! “I was so inspired by your last swap, that I decided to implement a thrift store at my high school!”
After getting a clothing donation from a local company, this high school teacher spearheaded a holiday thrift store to provide affordable, accessible shopping for students and families. Here’s how it went! This is just one of the inspirational ways sustainability has been rippling through the community.

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but shoulder pads are back. And I could not be more thrilled. Mostly because I love the high, structured look of a blazer with pads (give me a boss-binch tight bun any day of the week). And because it’s nearly impossible to thrift without coming across a shoulder pad.
I’m alsoooooooo obsessed with this street sneaker trend. I’m a big sneaker gal. Kelli said it the other day, too, “I want to wear more shoes, but I always wind up in sneakers.” We’re seeing bright colors, we’re seeing soccer stripes. We’re seeing fun laces and high tops. Give me a neon orange jogger with a well-tailored slack literally any day of the week.
Tag us on IG @jerseygirlthrift if you rock some fun sneakers or shoulder pads this week!
on the calendar: spring swap
For swappers excited about the next event…we’ve got our next swap LoCk3d and L0@dEd for (drumroll please)…. May 3rd!!!
A little hint: we’re popping up in Upper Montclair at a VERY trendy, cool location. Right on schedule for your spring/summer wardrobe refresh.
We will always drop tickets via email first, so keep your eyes out!
kitchen magic
Whenever Kelli comes over to work in the Dungeon Closet, she always asks what I’m eating for breakfast. “I’ve yet to see a breakfast food in here,” she joked last time.
I’m not a pancake or cereal kinda girlie. In fact, my favorite breakfast is… soup. Something about it in the winter really gets me ready for the day.
My latest obsession? Butternut squash and kale soup. Butternut squashies are kind of a binch to peel and cook, but there’s something satisfying about it. Creamy, hearty, warm… you can’t go wrong.

That’s all for now, thrift sisters!
Talk again soon
